Cllr. Malcolm Parker and Cllr. Keith Lloyd are
responsible for me joining both Plaid Cymru & the Credit Union. At one
time I played cricket and golf, but now my hobbies, are the party,
UCPCCU and the occasional computer game. |
I was born in Pontllanfraith just over a mile from where I
now live. Over the years I have lived in various other places in England
and for two years in Germany in between. I married Carol (Born in
Barry) 42 years ago, who I met in the third form in school in
Wiltshire. Both of our fathers were in the RAF. We have two sons, Owen
and Simon, both in their thirties.
I spent most of my
working life in industry as a design draughtsman, industrial
engineer and Quality Management Officer. Later, I was self-employed,
working in Britain, Europe and in the USA. These business experiences
are useful in the work being chair of the Credit Union. |

I’m Islwyn born & bred (Pontllanfraith like
our Chair, Glyn) and many years ago played first-class rugby
for Ebbw Vale. I’ve been a councillor on Caerffili C.B.C.
representing Pontllanfraith since
2008. |
In another era I was a member
of Islwyn Borough Council for 20 years. I’m Chair of the
Planning Committee, a member of the Policy and Resources
Scrutiny Committee, the Sustainable Development Panel and a
past chair of the Audit Committee, a member of 2 school
governing bodies, the Greater Gwent Pension Fund Management,
Gwent Archives, Glamorgan Archives, Welsh Books Council, Chair
of a local partnership and an active member of another, and a
permanent OU student---plenty to do with my time
then.
The treasurer has a wide range of duties. These
include preparing reports for the members, Board of Directors,
Financial Services Authority, Ford & Warren [Solicitors],
Williams & Ross [auditors] and the Welsh
Government.
I need to ensure that a satisfactory system of
the books, of accounts, receipts and remittances is
maintained, and to monitor and report on the credit union’s
performance against the business
plan. |
